The Sunrise is just on the Bishop side of the town centre, eastern-orientated as its name suggests but with a wholly anglicised menu on which chop suey rolls and a sweet and sour dip alone offer a sort of Sino qua non. There are "new lines", too - corned beef pie, scampi, lasagne and, wholly to play the crab card, fried rice, chips and sauce. Fish and chips were £4.10. The chips were hot, fresh and firm but a couple of potatoes short of fantastic. The fish, and its batter, were simply terrific. As clearly has dawned on Spennymoor, you'd need to be up very early to find a better fish shop than the Sunrise.
